How many bollards do I need for my driveway? ▾

As a rule of thumb, bollards should be spaced approximately 1.5 metres apart. This prevents vehicles from passing through while leaving space for pedestrians and wheelchairs. For a typical 3-metre driveway, one bollard in the centre is usually sufficient. For wider driveways, use our free calculator to get the exact number.

Do I need planning permission for bollards? ▾

In most cases, no. Security bollards installed on your own private driveway do not require planning permission as they are considered permitted development. However, if your property is listed or in a conservation area, we recommend checking with your local planning authority first.

How long does installation take? ▾

A typical installation takes 1-2 hours per bollard, depending on the ground surface and number of bollards. Our engineers will core-drill the hole, install the ground socket, set the bollard, and test everything before leaving. The bollard is usable immediately after installation.
