Ramco AutoGuard Automatic Bollard Installation — Upholland, Lancashire Case Study

When a driveway sits directly on the pavement line, anyone can pull onto it. After two of his neighbours had cars stolen, this Upholland homeowner wanted the space back under his own control — without a gate, and without getting out of the car in the rain. The problem

The driveway opens straight onto a residential road with no kerb upstand and no gate. Car thefts had been rising locally — two vehicles taken from neighbouring properties — and there was nothing to stop a vehicle being driven off the drive, or another being parked on it. A gate was not wanted — it needed height clearance, hinges and somewhere to swing.

The solution

The Ramco AutoGuard is a battery-powered automatic bollard: it rises and drops on a key fob, so the driveway is secured from the driver's seat. Because it runs on a rechargeable battery, there was no trenching back to the house for mains power — which on a block-paved driveway is normally the most disruptive and most expensive part of the job.

The work

Our fitter lifted a small section of block paving at the driveway threshold, dug out to 950mm and set the socket plumb in concrete — the socket does the structural work, so it has to be dead level and properly bedded. The blocks were cut back in around the collar and the site was swept and cleared the same day. One visit, one bollard, driveway usable that evening.

The result

The driveway is now controlled from a fob in the car, with a stainless steel bollard that drops flush when it is not needed. The customer signed the job off the same day and left us a five-star review:
