Retrofitting high-security locks into five telescopic bollards — West Midlands

The Problem

Mike in the West Midlands got in touch with us in July about a faulty lock on one of his Ramco 600 telescopic bollards. He has five across his driveway, protecting the vehicles parked there. They were fitted 4 years ago in March 2022, by us, just before having his new driveway tarmacked. The bollards had performed faultlessly until one lock stopped working.

A bollard that won't lock isn't providing security, so we treated it as a priority.

You will notice that the customer had retrofitted some hi viz tape at the top to "Stop taxi's from hitting them when they try to turn near his driveway."

The Solution

When Mike described the fault over the phone, I explained that we've since upgraded to our new High-Security Locks, machined from stainless steel and brass and designed especially for us and the Ramco bollards. Crucially, it retrofits directly into existing Ramco 600 posts — no need to dig out or replace the bollards themselves.

He was delighted, so rather than swapping just the one faulty lock, he instructed us to upgrade all five, and of course as an existing customer, and a really nice guy, we did him a deal. It's the sensible option: one matching set of keys, consistent security across the driveway, and no waiting for the older locks to fail one at a time.

The Work

On site, it was a straightforward morning's work:

• Assessed the faulty lock on arrival and confirmed the diagnosis, just in case it was a simple fix.
• Removed the old locks from all five bollards, this takes time.
• Fitted five new high-security stainless steel and brass locks.
• Gave each bollard a full service, with fresh lubrication on the moving parts.
• Demonstrated the new locks, handed over the keys, Mike's driveway is secure again.

The Result

All five Ramco 600 bollards are back in full working order, upgraded with locks built for years of reliable service — and the customer's vehicles remain well protected.

The finished job — five bollards, five new locks, one very happy customer.
